What is ShellPilot?

ShellPilot is a professional SSH terminal for iPhone. It includes an SFTP file browser, saved hosts, Face ID protection, optional iCloud sync, and an optional AI assistant that can help diagnose issues and run commands.

Connecting & Keys

What kinds of SSH keys does ShellPilot support?

ShellPilot supports password login and private key authentication, including modern and legacy key formats such as RSA, EC, and PEM-encoded keys. Import a key from Files or paste it directly when adding a host.

I can't connect to my server. What should I check?

Confirm the hostname or IP, port, username, and authentication method are correct, and that the server allows connections from your network. If a key was rejected, check that the key format is supported and the passphrase (if any) is correct.

AI Assistant

How does the AI assistant work?

The AI assistant is optional. Turn it on in Settings and choose a provider — Claude, OpenAI, Gemini, DeepSeek, Qwen, Zhipu, Moonshot, or a custom endpoint — with your own API key. Requests go directly from the app to that provider.

Can the AI assistant run commands on my server?

Yes, if you allow it. The assistant can suggest and run commands for you. Commands considered risky are flagged with a warning before they run, and you stay in control.

Can I use ShellPilot without AI?

Yes. ShellPilot works as a complete SSH terminal and SFTP client without ever enabling the AI assistant.

Security & Sync

How are my passwords and keys protected?

Credentials are kept in secure on-device storage. You can also lock the app with Face ID or a pattern lock in Settings.

What does iCloud sync do?

When enabled, iCloud sync keeps your saved servers up to date across your devices signed in with the same Apple ID. It is optional and can be turned off in Settings at any time.
